Emsworth fishing vessels laid up at Emsworth

The scallop boat Cymba (1893) is seen from astern between two other boats aground in the drying harbour of Emsworth. The Cymba's name and home port of Portsmouth are written on its counter stern, along with, in larger letters, the initials JDF. The view emphasises the Cymba's deep keel and elegant lines. No detail save some topside planking is visible of the boat on the left of the image (which negative P75751 confirms is a boat similar to the Cymba), while the boat bow-on to the camera on the right appears from its flat or near-flat bottom, heavy carvel construction and gaff ketch rig to be a sailing barge of some 40ft. A fisherman's anchor hangs over its port bow.
