Stone bust of Homer
This lively drawing shows a bust of the Greek poet Homer, in black crayon, heightened with white. It may well portray the bust in the collections of the British Museum (1805,0703.85) which was excavated at Baiae near Naples in 1780 and bought from William Hamilton by Charles Townley. Cooke's drawing is very similar to the print made by Francesco Bartolozzi in 1788.
