Margate, 1857, brig Petrel (?)
Seen from the port stern quarter, a brig of some 100ft LOD, said to be the Petrel by the author of the negative envelope text, is seen resting, heeled to starboard, on mud at low tide in Margate harbour, with a tender aground beneath its port bow. The ship's rigging and apparently bare spars are indistinct, and the latter have been re-touched in ink, as has the name of the Globe Tavern on the harbourside beyond. Against the quay beyond the brig is moored a Thames barge, its spritsail brailed.
