Penzance, Yorkshire coble beached

The port beam of a Scarborough coble of about 35ft, regd SH389, is seen in this image in close up, beached as the H.O. Hill notebook entry indicates, in Penzance. Its name is written at the stern end of the sheerstrake but is illegible on the negative. In the distance above the gunwale is what may be a view of the buildings of Penzance, but with no discernibly recognizable detail. The boat has been beached, but with no clue in the negative as to why it is so far from its home port. The image shows the distinctive hull shape of the type with its complex sheerline, deep bow and rubbing strakes below the waterline to prevent damage when hauling aground and launching.
