Colchester smack CK297 in Mounts Bay

A ketch-rigged, Colchester-registered boat of ca. 60ft is shown sailing with a crew of four on deck on a broad reach towards Newlyn, across Mount's Bay, with topsail set and towing a punt. The mainsail is not laced to the boom. The boat, named the Hilda (1886) on the negative's envelope, has the steeply-raked stern of an Essex smack, but is rigged like many a trading ketch of the period. The perspective of this image is slightly different from that of negative P76179.
