Dover motor galley punt Maple Leaf

A Dover motor galley punt, the Maple Leaf, regd DR41, is seen from the port beam, resting on chocks on shingle. Its ca. 25ft clinker-built hull form is similar to that of sailing galleys, but the sternpost is cut away beneath a shallow transom to permit a propellor ahead of the rudder ( which is not shipped in the image). Beside the boat is a hand-operated winch. A post projects upwards in the bow as in negatives P76196 & P76197, and another amidships. Hanging from the gunwale are four fenders made of unknown materials, resembling stacked flower pots in shape and encased in some type of elastic fabric.
