Eastbourne lugger Star of the East

The Eastbourne lugger Star of the East, regd NN66, is seen from slightly to the port side of the bow, its flat floors resting on chocks on shingle, with the sea behind. Both fore- and mizzen masts are stepped, and the bowsprit is also rigged. The metal frame of a net projects above the gunwale. In front of the lugger on the shingle beach is a windlass with vertically mounted winding drums supported by a heavy timber frame, secured by a chain to the landward side. The Star of the East's hull form is full, with a sharp turn of bilge to flat floors.
