Fleetwood shrimper at Newhaven
An unnamed ex-Fleetwood shrimper, Shoreham-regd as SM100 is shown moored afloat at the foot of a jetty, viewed from the port stern quarter. The mainsail is half-hoisted, with no wind to fill it. A man stands on deck on the port side attending to rigging, his back to the camera. The curved corners of the gunwales at the eliptical 'coaster' or 'tug' stern, typical of the North West coast shrimper/prawner/nobby type, are clearly delineated. Beyond the boat is a bridge over the Newhaven harbour channel, and beyond it, a group of cranes. (H.O. Hill notebook also quotes image No. 440 for the same subject in its entry for image S553)
