Hastings luggers

The Hastings lugger Swan, regd RX204, is seen from the ground on her port side, beached in Hastings harbour and facing the town. A ladder rests against her topsides and nets hang over the gunwale. She has a concave planked counter stern unlike the lute stern of the next boat on the left of the image. A bowsprit extends from the Swan's stem, while her mizzen's yard is fastened to the traveller on the mizzen mast. The Swan's rudder extends down to within a foot or so of the bottom of the sternpost, and a propeller is placed to port of the keel, forward of the rudder.
