The Hastings lugger EVG, regd RX152, is photographed close up and stern-on, beached at Hastings. Above its concave-curved planked stern is the 'transom' bearing its name and 'Hastings' and 'Port of Rye' on each of three lines. The rudder extending down from the top of the concave-curved stern section has a flat bottom edge. To port of it is the propeller of an auxiliary engine. A bumkin extends from the starboard side of the stern above the gunwale. The mizzen yard and furled mizzen are hoisted half-way up the mizzen mast, from which hang fine-meshed nets. A trawl board hangs from the starboard gunwale. At the bow a spar - the foresail yard or a bowsprit - projects over the port gunwale. In the background are Hastings harbourside buildings which the EVG's bow is facing.
