Penzance pleasure sailing boats
A two-masted Mount's Bay pilot gig regd PZ68 is viewed from about 100ft off its starboard beam, under sail on a starboard reach to seaward of St Michael's Mount, which is visible in the distance, as is another small, lug-rigged boat. The main subject has standing lug main and mizzen sails, the latter sheeted to a short bumkin, and a jib tacked to the stemhead. It has a straight stem and vertical transom, and appears to be carvel-built, unlike the pilot gig represented in neg. P74889, reproduced in the Chatham Directory of Inshore Craft (p168). The helmsman and two crew are seated aft.
