'Bombardment of the Turkish forts at the entrance to the Dardanelles, 18 February 1915'. The painting is listed in the printed catalogue as being by 'Dowell' but it is signed 'W McDowell', lower right in red. McDowell was a painter and illustrator (1888-1950), mainly of contemporary - but also historical - shipping and naval subjects, in a realistic style, though he also painted more impressionistic figure and landscape subjects.
