People on a stone bridge and in a shikara near Dal Lake in Kashmir

A black and white landscape photograph showing people on a bridge and sat in a boat nearby. A shikara (a type of covered wooden boat) can be seen in the foreground. A man wearing a turban and a light-coloured jacket sits near the bow holding a paddle in both hands. Two women, probably Europeans, sit in the middle of the boat under its canopy. Both wear dresses and hats. Five men, all wearing turbans, sit in the stern. Behind them is a stone bridge with three pointed arches, the central arch larger than the other two than the other two. At least ten people, probably Kashmiri, are standing on the bridge, mostly in the centre. The riverbank on the left of the image features a stone wall and a row of trees above and the bank on the right of the image features trees and a building with a pitched roof. Original caption (beneath, in ink): ‘Naiwidyer Bridge near Dal Lake’.
