Stabroek Market and surrounding streets in Georgetown, British Guiana

A black and white landscape photograph of Stabroek Market and surrounding streets in Georgetown, British Guiana [now Guyana]. On the left of the photograph is a building with ‘MARKET POLICE STATION’ on the wall. A taller building with a belltower and clock can be seen behind this. Around fifteen pedestrians can be seen on the street in front of the buildings, including (closest to the camera), a woman carrying a round basket on her head. On the right of the photograph is a tree, under which several people are sitting. To the right of this is a two-wheeled cart. Various telegraph poles can be seen running around the area. In the background is another larger building, with ‘STABROEK STORE’ on its wall. Original caption (below, in ink): ‘The market Demerara, British Guinana [sic]’.
