The Bronze Temple

A lightly colourised, landscape photograph showing a Japanese temple building. Behind the temple is dense, green forest. The front of the temple is surrounded by a wooden picket style fence, with wooden supports leading to a brick roof. In front of the entrance to the temple is a set of stone stairs that have small shrines on either side of the walkway, and a small tree on the right of the image. Some sculptures can be seen in the foreground, including two small dragon looking creatures, and a horse. The New York Public Library attributes the image to photographer Kusakabe Kimbei, and features the caption ‘Bronze Horse Temple, at Nagasaki’. Original caption in pen underneath the photograph: ‘The Bronze Temple’.
