Two Maldivian people in front of thatched buildings
A black and white landscape photograph showing two Maldivian people in front of thatched buildings. The figure to the left of the image, probably a boy or young man, has his right side facing the camera and is sat on a swing with his knees bent and his toes on the ground. The ropes of the swing extend out of frame and are probably attached to a tree behind him. The figure on the right of the image, a man, is standing facing the camera and has his right hand on this hip. He holds a bundle of fabric in his left hand. Both figures wear sarong-like garments on their legs and are bare-chested and barefoot. Behind them is a group of thatched buildings. Wooden panels make up the walls of the building immediately behind the standing figure. There is also a square stone trough behind his left shoulder. The tops of palm trees and other vegetation can be seen in the background, above the roofs of the buildings. Original caption (jointly with ALB1783.58, in ink to the left of the photograph): ‘Street Views / taken on / Malé or King’s / Island January / 1894’.
