Spanish engagement with Barbary pirates

A panel painting showing Spanish ships in action with Barbary pirates. In the foreground on the far right a Spanish galleon is engaging two Barbary galleys which have surrounded it. There is more fighting taking place behind. The fierce fighting is dramatically conveyed and the guns of the Spanish soldiers on their ship are clearly shown trained on the pirates below. The wreckage of another Barbary ship which has already sunk in the battle, can be seen in the foreground on the left. The artist has conveyed a highly dramatic impression of shipping under attack.
