On the quay in the foreground several sailors are offloading barrels from a small boat with an awning over the deck. One of these barrels is in the process of rolling along the gangplank. A number of figures can be seen on the shore. The buildings of the port are so carefully detailed that it is possible that the artist was working from an engraving.
