A Dutch ship at anchor off Genoa
A painting showing shipping at anchor off the coast of Genoa. The buildings of the port are shown in some detail in the background. A Dutch ship is at anchor in the foreground on the right. Various crew members are on deck, with some of them attending to the sail in the bow. Around the ship are a number of small ship’s boats. On the quay in the foreground several sailors are offloading barrels from a small boat with an awning over the deck. One of these barrels is in the process of rolling along the gangplank. A number of figures can be seen on the shore. The buildings of the port are so carefully detailed that it is possible that the artist was working from an engraving.
