Woolwich, Kent
This hand-coloured engraving depicts a view of Woolwich with the Thames in the distance. A wagon descends a rutted track in the foreground. The buildings of the dockyard are visible on the left and the church of St Mary Magdalene is shown on the right. Inscribed beneath the image with the title, ‘Woolwich, Kent’, and the engraving and publication details: ‘Drawn by H. Gastineau / Engraved by J. Hinchliff / Published 1829 by Geo. Virtue, 26 Ivy Lane.’ The Woolwich image was produced for England's Topographer or a New and Complete History of the County of Kent, a four-volume illustrated publication issued between 1828 and 1831.
