'Sketch in imitation of VanderVelde'

A drawing of 17th-century shipping in the manner of the Willem van de Veldes and so inscribed on the mount by a later owner. Mounted with PAF0018 and bound with PAF0001–PAF0018, PAF0020–PAF0022, which is an album inscribed 'Sketches - various by Nichs. Pocock Esqr. / Of Ships &c in pencil.' The album contains 21 small drawings of actions and various craft, some with explanatory comments in ink by a previous owner. He appears to have provided the title in this case, although the drawing might also be after some other 17th-century Dutch marine artist. Exhibited (album, open at this image): NMM Pocock exhib.
