Ships of the surrendered German High Seas Fleet off Inchkeith, in the Forth, November 1918

Inscribed, 'German Battleships off Inch Keith' and signed by the artist, lower right, this is a view of units of the surrendered fleet in the Firth of Forth on 22-23 November 1918. (Inchkeith is the island that lies in the mouth of the estuary, almost marking its boundary with the North Sea). Most are not specifically identifiable but that on the right is the battlecruiser 'Seydlitz' (1912) seen in port-broadside view. She led the German High Seas Fleet into the Forth on 21 November and left to internment in Scapa Flow on the 24th. Wyllie was present at the surrender and internment of the German fleet, as guest (for a month) of Admiral Sir Charles Madden on HMS 'Revenge'.
