Study of the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916, about 16.20

A sketch view from astern of the British line about 16.20 with a 'rough scale of feet' marked along the bottom for some form of enlargement. The battleships of the Grand Fleet are in the foreground with Beatty's four battlecruisers, 'Lion', 'Princess Royal', 'Tiger' and ''New Zealand under fire in the left centre beyond. The column of smoke on the right is likely to be the armoured cruiser 'Defence' blowing up, with the four-funnelled armoured cruiser 'Warrior' close to it. The German High Seas Fleet is dimly discernible on the southern horizon to the left of it.
