'Christmas Day 1916'; yachts leaving Portsmouth Harbour
Signed and inscribed, as title, by the artist, lower right. This view looks directly across the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour to Fort Blockhouse and the Haslar Wall, with sailing boats leaving and heading west into the Solent. It was probably drawn from Tower House, Wyllie's home in old Portsmouth or somewhere else close above the Sallyport, as a record of this peaceful, bright Christmas morning in wartime.
