'Spithead [:] arrival of the young Emperor 1889': Kaiser Willhem II arriving at Portsmouth
Inscribed, as title, and signed by the artist, lower right. Illustration for Wyllie and M.F. Wren, 'Sea Fights of the Great War' (1918) f. p.2. The Imperial paddle yacht 'Hohenzollern' is coming in, centre right, above the rowing boat in which a man has his arm raised. Inaccuracies for the time in the German ships shown suggest Wyllie did this later than the occasion, in the period 1897-1904, or using images of that date to compose it for the book later on.
