A light cruiser, probably HMS 'Southampton' , and destroyers off a coast
Signed by the artist, lower right. This fully finished watercolour shows ships making passage along what may be the Scottish coast, and passing a low-lying lighthouse. The light cruiser is one of the 'Chatham' class and probably the 'Southampton'. The rig at least corresponds to that ship's in 1914-16. The destroyers appear to be of the 'Acasta' (K)-class that formed the 4th Destroyer Flotilla of the Grand Fleet from 1914 to late summer 1916.
