Study of an 'Orion'-class battleship
This is a reasonably accurate depiction of an Orion class battleship from broad on the starboard bow, but there is no topgallant mast. All four of the ships in this class had a yard below the foretop, two yards on a topmast and one yard on a topgallant. The four ships were 'Orion' (1910) 'Conqueror' (1911), 'Monarch' (1911) and 'Thunderer' (1911), and they were all completed in 1912. The ship is shown here as completed and has an awning rigged amidships. She is stationary in calm water and rather grey weather, with a suggestion of coastline beyond, but no sign of a mooring.
