Study of the former German battleship 'Baden', at anchor and listing, 1921
Inscribed 'Baden' by the artist, lower right. For the circumstances of this ship's internment and subsequent use as a British gunnery target, 1918-21, see PAF1872. This study shows her at anchor with a list to starboard. It may have been made at the time of her scuttling off the Casquet Rocks, Channel Islands, on 16 August 1921, since she has her starboard anchor down whereas one of the other studies of her under fire as a target (PAF1877) shows the port one deployed. See also PAE2736, PAE3133, PAF1876 and PAF1877.
