The Fisher Lass (A Loch Fyne Herring Skiff)
This watercolour study was reproduced in colour as plate no. 5 in Wyllie's 'Sketchbook' published by Cassell & Co in 1908. It was 'sketched at Tarbert' on Loch Fyne, possibly in 1889. Brian Ward has identified the vessel as the Fisher Lass owned by Dugald Smith.
Tarbert is a fishing village on Loch Fyne situated on the eastern coast of the Mull of Kintyre. In 1889 the Wyllies cruised the west coast of Scotland in their new yacht the 'Grey Mare', which had just been built at Rosneath on the Clyde.
