Battlecruisers and the 5th Battle Squadron in action at Jutland, 31 May 1916, about 17.00-1730

Signed (faintly) by the artist, lower right, this drawing shows Admiral David Beatty's battlecruisers, with 'Lion' (his flagship) leading 'Princess Royal', 'Tiger' and 'New Zealand' followed by the 5th Battle Squadron's battleships - 'Barham', 'Valiant', 'Warspite' and 'Malaya' at the Battle of Jutland on 31 May 1916. They are steering approximately north between 17.00 and 17.30, engaged with the German fleet off to starboard (viewer's left). This item appears to be a version or preliminary study in wash for the watercolour reproduced facing p.118 in Wyllie's co-authored book 'More Sea Fights of the Great War (1919), which has the caption '"Lion" leading the Battle-Cruisers' and is the third there in the sequence on Jutland.
