Charnock's Views. Volume II. Architecture
Album contains seventy-six drawings each mounted on a page, with another twenty-nine blank pages. This large collection of 333 original architectural and related views by Charnock (1756-1807), in five volumes (PAF2721, PAF2766, PAF2843, PAF2928 and PAF2963), was purchased in 1966 from the London antiquarian map and bookseller, Ben Weinreb, with a previous provenance to 'Henry B.H. Beaufoy'. Despite the slight discrepancy of initials this may have been Charnock's contemporary, the politician Henry Hanbury Beaufoy (1750-95) who had interests that might have led him to patronize the impecunious Charnock to the extent of buying them from him: Beaufoy had no children so it cannot be a later direct member of his family.
