Serenissima Maria Beatrix D G Angliae Scotiae Franciae et Hibernia Regina &c
Print. The pair to one of Mary's husband, James II (PAF3274). The latter is from the original oil painting by Largilliere which is now NMM BHC2798. Despite enquiry, Largilliere's matching oil of Mary, painted at the same time and from which this print was taken, has never been found. Since the print of James is in reverse to the oil, it can be assumed that the same is true of this image; that is, the original painting showed her facing right rather than left. PvdM 10/05
