The Fifth Battle Squadron at 'Windy Corner', Jutland, May 31st 1916. By H E Frecker, RNR From details supplied by eyewitness
Signed by the artist both in the plate and separately in pencil, lower left. This drypoint engraving represents the position at about 17.25 on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland with the battleship 'Barham' (1914) leading the 5th Battle Squadron on the run to the north. She is followed by the 'Valiant' (1914) and the 'Warspite' (1913) and they are engaging the German High Seas Fleet to starboard. The 'Malaya' (1915), last ship in the line, has hauled out to port temporarily. Little seems recorded of Frecker, who appears to have been a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve during the First World War and an artist of the 'Wyllie school' in terms of style.
