'In Honour of the British Navy. To Commemorate the Surrender of the German Fleet.'
This magazine print shows the triumphant figure of Britannia on a sea-horse emerging from the waves, with warships behind. It is a page extracted from the magazine 'Punch' (then known under its originally longer title of 'Punch, or the London Charivari) of 27 November 1919, six days after the German High Seas Fleet sailed into the Firth of Forth before being interned at Scapa Flow. Although he did much other work, (Sir) Bernard Partridge was latterly and for many years the chief cartoonist for 'Punch'.
