A galleon making a landfall at Montserrat
Oil painting. This is an unusual 'historicizing' 16th/17th-century subject for Everett, though BHC4004 shows a similar galleon in stern view in open sea. A related study, BHC436, shows the island to be Montserrat in the West Indies from the distinctive peak and coast profile to the left. BHC4055 is another study of the island (inscribed) but with the higher ground hidden in cloud. The whole group probably derives from Everett's West Indian voyage in the 'Suzanne', 1928-30.
