This print represents an episode of the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, when Nelson having stepped ashore, was hit in the right arm by a musketball. Nelson lost his arm and the operation ended in failure, the British forces having failed to capture the city. The incident however contributed to establish Nelson’s fame, as it showed his bravery in battle.
