This print shows the frustrated Dutch naval siege of All Saint´s Bay (Salvador, Brazil) on 6 June 1627, under the command of Admiral Piet Heyn. While the siege failed, the Dutch succeeded in seizing suger-laden Portuguese vessels.
This is a reversed printing of folio 23 of Isaak Commelyn´s 'Fredrick Henrick van Nassauw prince va orangien zyn leven en bedryf' (Utrecht, 1651 and 1652). Also published in Gregorio Leti´s 'Teatro Belgico' Vol II (Amsterdam, 1690).
The original version of the print is also in the collection [PAF4451].
