Combat memorable entre le Pearson et Paul Jones
Hand-coloured. With reversed title as above and captions below in German and French: 'Combat memorable entre le Pearson et Paul Jones done le 22 7bre[sic] 1779 le Capitaine Pearson comendant le Serapis et Paul Jones comendant le Serapis et Paul Jones commandant le Bon home Richart et son Escadre.' An inscription ('Collection des Prospects') at the top shows this is apparently a 'vue d'optique', in viewing which a mirror reverses the main title. Though after Paton, a London marine artist, it was published at Augsburg as the inscription along the bottom shows and possibly deriving from another print.
