La Rochelle: the church of Saint-Sauveur, from the north quay of the harbour
Oil painting. The view appears to be along the north side of the inner habour. The medieval church of Saint-Sauveur at La Rochelle is in more ornamented Gothic than appears is this slightly schematic view - and not so tall- , but the form of its own tiled roof just visible over the parapet, and spatial relationship with the small, pyramidally grey-roofed tower to the left make this a convincing identification when compared to modern photographs from the same approximate viewpoint.
