High and dry
Oil painting of Thames barges, one beached high and dry at low tide, with others in the distance moored offshore. The location is probably on the Essex coast and, depending on date, more likely to show barges preserved by enthusiasts - as many have been - than examples still in working use. The distant yachts suggest this is the case, as do other sailing dinghies further up the beach, perhaps connected with a local sailing club.
