Sketch of various vessels in London Dock, Shadwell, near Stepney or Wapping Station

Bound with PAG1790-PAG1799, PAG1801-PAG1861.; Page 11.

London Docks are in Shadwell, near Stepney or Wapping Station. At the time of their construction the docks were the closest to the City. They were opened in 1805, and enjoyed a 21 year monopoly on tobacco, wine, rice and brandy exported from outside the East and West Indies. They amalgamated with St Katharine's Dock in 1864, and were eventually closed to shipping in 1969.
