Mid-day at Dunwich
Oil painting showing boats on the shingle beach at Dunwich, Suffolk, in bright sunlight. The artist was born on 1 March 1938 near Quebec city, Canada, and trained there and in Toronto. In 1963-64 he travelled in Europe, then spent time in Canada until returning to paint in England in 1969, based in East Anglia. This painting was done the following year and is specifically dated 6 September 1970 on the reverse. In 1980 he moved to France and painted there until September 1987 when he returned to Canada and settled in Sooke, BC, in the Greater Victoria area. (His current spelling of his name is as shown, with DesRochers as one word, though it appears as Des Rochers in the signature on this picture). [PvdM 7/12]
