The Custom House - Shanghai - 13th Septr 1875

The Chinese Custom House was effectively established by foreign consuls in Shanghai in 1854 to collect maritime trade taxes that went unpaid during the Taiping Rebellion. It was a red-walled house, erected on the site of a former temple along the celebrated Bund (embanked quayside ) of Shanghai.
