A beach scene with pinks hauled up and fishermen at work. On the right there is the after part, starboard side, of a pink. Nearby is a fish trunk with two rollers lying on it. Two horses are beyond. In the left middle-distance is a pink hauled up with a cart near it crowded with people. Various other groups of fishing people standing or sitting around.
It is presumed to have been made by the Elder in preparation for his pen paintings or grisailles; but it is not identified with certainty.
