The Dutch fleet getting under way

The Dutch fleet getting under way. In the centre is the bow view of a ship with flag at the fore and pendant at the main, with only her fore topsail set. A galjoot is in the left foreground before the wind, starboard broadside view. In the right background is the commander-in-chief, and the admiral of the van and a vice-admiral are in the left background.

The drawing may have been executed when Van de Velde was with the Dutch fleet in the autumn of 1664.
