Drawing of the council-of-war in the Dutch fleet, 8 [OS]/18 August 1665, part of a series of drawings of De Ruyter’s voyage to Bergen, Autumn 1665.

The council-of-war was held on board the ‘Liefde’ soon after De Ruyter’s arrival in the fleet. In the centre, a port quarter view of Cornelis tromp in the Liefde with flag and pendant at the main. A galjoot and boats under her stern. On the right, the frigate ‘Schiedam’ also with a flag and pendant at the main. On the left a stern view of De Liefde in the ‘Groot Hollandia’ and in the distance, Cornelis Eversten in the ‘Hof van Zeeland’.

Van de Velde left Holland in his galjoot with the fleet under Tromp in August, and when de Ruyter took over command, went with him to Bergen.
