Portrait of the 'James Galley'
Portrait of the ‘James Galley’, 30 guns, fourth and later fifth rate. She was built in 1676 and wrecked in 1694. She is viewed from the starboard bow. A Union jack is at the top of the ensign staff.
It was probably based on an offset, carefully and accurately worked up with pencil and wash.
