The Right Hon. Lord Bridport K.B. Admiral of the White Who Defeated the French Fleet off Port L'Orient, June 23rd 1795
Hand-coloured. An oval three-quarter-length portrait of Alexander Hood (1726–1814) in naval uniform with the star of the Order of the Bath, holding his sword in his right hand and tucking his left hand in his waistcoat, with ships in the background. Lettered beneath the image with the title: ‘The Right Hon. Lord Bridport K.B. Admiral of the White Who Defeated the French Fleet off Port L'Orient, June 23rd 1795’. Also lettered with the publication line, ‘London, Published Octr. 10th 1798 by G. Thompson, No. 43, Long Lane West Smithfield & J. Evans No. 41.’ This portrait was published by John Evans and George Thompson on 10 October 1798. This impression has been cut down, removing part of the publication line. (Updated May 2019.)
