John Harness Esqr. MD. FLS
Mounted with PAG6772. From the 'Naval Chronicle', vol 35 (1816) facing p. 265, which is first page of a substantial a memoir of Harness, naval surgeon and Commissioner of the Sick and Wounded Board, and of the Transport Board from their amalgamation in 1806 until 1817 (when he retired on its amalgamation with the Victualling Board). Born in 1754, he died and was buried at Brighton in the first week of January 1823. There is also a miniature of him in the collection, as a younger man (see MNT0078). The initials 'FLS' here stand for Fellow of the Linnaean Society, to which he was elected in February 1809 while living in London and resigned in February 1818 some time after retiring to Abbots Langley, near St Albans.[PvdM 8/09]
