Episodes Maritimes Incendie du Vaisseau Le Devonsire de 86 Canons, 21 Septembre 1707
Print showing the blowing up of the Devonshire in action with Admiral Rene Duguay-Trouin at the Battle at The Lizard on 21 Oct 1707. The print is titled misleadingly with the date as 21 September 1707.
The vessel is shown centre , with a number of people in row boats abandoning the ship, a few souls clinging to the broken top of the main mast to right foreground. Other vessels engaged in action are shown in the distance. These may include Cumberland, Chester or Ruby, both captured by the French fleet, or the Royal Oak which escaped.
The main design and lithography of the print is by Mayer and Sabatier, whilst the figures are drawn separately, by Bayot.
