Inscribed: “Captain Julius Roberts' Mortar Boats engaging the quarantine battery – Sebastopol August 15th 1855”. ‘Flamer’ is shown centrally starboard-bow on in the centre foreground, with two similar vessels astern of her; their target is to the right. Gunsmoke is issuing from two of the boats, as well as the quarantine battery; between them a projectile has fallen short of ‘Flamer’ into the sea.
